Teamsters Local 700 Welcomes New Law Enforcement Members
Police in Suburban Waukegan, Braidwood Vote for Teamsters
Teamsters Local 700 proudly welcomed new members in recent months from two Chicago-area police departments, expanding its diverse public employee membership.
Waukegan Lieutenants
Local 700-represented members working as Lieutenants in Waukegan ratified their first Teamster contract on Jan. 16.
Local business agent Barb Cornett worked with the bargaining committee and other Local 700 representatives and attorneys to retain at-risk benefits and to avoid layoffs proposed by the City of Waukegan.
Braidwood Police Department
Eleven Braidwood Police officers have also unanimously voted to join Local 700. After receiving unsatisfactory contract negotiation results from a previous union, the members took representation into their own hands and reached out to the Teamsters.
Braidwood is located roughly 60 miles southwest of Chicago.
“Now we know that we have someone on our side willing to fight for us,” said Jack McCasland, Local 700 member and nine-year officer in Braidwood. “It seemed like MAP [Metropolitan Alliance of Police] was fighting for MAP. Now we have someone fighting for what we want.”
Cornett and other Local 700 representatives have already begun meeting with the new members to negotiate their first Teamster contract.
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and northwest Indiana.
