Traffic Services Teamster Earns Master’s Degree at 58 Years Old
Member Is Truly Inspiring, Local 700 Secretary-Treasurer Says
When Yvone Love was in high school, she made a promise to herself that she would earn both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Last month, the 58-year-old’s dream was realized as she crossed the stage at Roosevelt University to receive her Masters of Finance.
“It was something that I had promised myself,” Love said, a 25-year Teamster represented by Teamsters Local 700. “It feels like I’m on top of a mountain.”
Now armed with degrees in business administration and finance, Love says she plans on continuing her current work in the City of Chicago’s Traffic Services Department. She said her fellow Teamsters helped keep her motivated throughout the six years it took her to earn the most recent degree.
“I did think of them as I was doing it,” she said. “I was thinking about how what I was doing is something that could help all of us.”
“Yvone is truly an inspiration,” said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 Secretary-Treasurer. “She’s really one of those people that never stops moving and never stops working, and that’s something I know all Teamsters can be proud of.”
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and northwest Indiana.
