Teamster License Plates In Demand

Local 142 Pushes Plates As Joint Council 25 Collects Applications

Teamster specialty license plates have been available to members, retirees and all residents across Indiana for nearly a year, and Teamsters Joint Council 25 wants to make it a reality in Illinois, too.

Teamsters Local 142 was the driving force in 2011 to give Indiana drivers the opportunity to display their union pride on the road. The new Teamster license plates, complete with the union’s blue and gold horsehead logo, are now and forever available for $15 through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The money collected is donated to charities throughout the state.

Across the state line, Joint Council 25 is within sight of its goal to register 1,500 Teamsters and supporters needed to establish Illinois’ first-ever Teamster license plates in 2012.

“The Teamsters need the support now of every member, retiree, friend and family member to make these plates a reality,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “The union is covering the application fee for every Illinois driver who submits their application now to the Joint Council—that’s how much this matters to our members.”

To helps the Illinois Teamsters establish the new specialty plates, DOWNLOAD and complete the attached application, or contact the Joint Council to receive one in the mail at (847) 292-1225. All completed applications should be returned directly to Joint Council 25, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 220, Park Ridge, IL 60068. Completed applications may also be faxed to (847) 292-1412.

“No money or amount should be enclosed with the application,” said Coli. “Simply return the form and Joint Council 25 will do the rest.”

All applications submitted to the Joint Council will ultimately be processed by the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. Applicants will be notified via mail once the state begins productions of the new Teamster plates. Applicants who wish to finalize their order and pick up a new plate will be able to do so at their local vehicle services facility for a one-time fee of $15.

“There is no financial obligation to submit an application to the Joint Council,” said Coli. “Simply show your support today and submit a completed form to help us reach our goal.”
