Garda Cash Workers Choose Teamster Power
More Than 150 Employees Join Teamster Local 705

Local 705 members and other Teamster supporters rally around Garda Cash workers in Broadview.
Armored cars aren’t the only powerful defense for workers at Garda Cash Logistics after more than 150 employees joined Teamsters Local 705 in December.
Inside workers from the Garda Cash Logistics (TSX: GW) facility in Broadview will soon enjoy the protections of a Teamster contract. Negotiations for the new members’ first collective bargaining agreement will begin soon.
“During tough economic times, union busting and workers injustice are at their peak. Workers everywhere are fearful but they are not discouraged. They increasingly recognize that they need job security, the kind that only a Teamster contract can provide. Adequate benefits and fair treatment from their employer are what the men and women at Garda Cash Logistic demanded and will receive with this contract,” said Juan Campos, Local 705 Secretary-Treasurer. “The employees at Garda Cash Logistics had the courage to stand up and vote for the union despite of any of management’s empty gestures and last-minute promises.”
Members from Local 705 were joined at a rally outside Garda Cash on Dec. 6 by supporters and representatives from Teamsters Local 458M, Teamsters Local 700, Teamsters Local 734, Teamsters Local 777 and other affiliates. Local 705’s Volunteer Organizers Committee maintained a strong presence throughout the campaign.
“More than 70 volunteers have joined our volunteer organizing committee, made up of dedicated rank-and-file members and representatives from the local,” said Campos. “We could not celebrate this overwhelming victory without the solidarity and hard work of everyone on the Volunteer Organizing Committee.”
Local 705 Vice President Greg Foster, Organizer San Juanita Gonzalez and Teamsters International Representative Rebecca Hanscom helped volunteers make house calls, visit Garda Cash employees and mobilize members throughout the campaign.
Garda Cash Logistics, based in Montreal, Canada, employs more than 45,000 workers throughout the world in the security and cash logistics industries.
“The commitment of its representatives and members ensured the success of one of Local 705’s largest organizing campaigns,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “Local 705 is more determined than ever to not only bring representation to workers in need, but to energize existing members and volunteers to deliver the message of Teamster Power.”
Teamsters Local 705 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and northwest Indiana.
