Cook County Clerks Vote Down Furlough Days
Local 700 Reduces Proposed County Layoffs By Half
Just days after the 2012 Cook County budget was released, Cook County Circuit Clerks represented by Teamsters Local 700 effectively voted against furlough days.
While the vote means a total of 69 layoffs will take place in the Clerk’s office next year, the total number of member layoffs have been slashed by 50 percent thanks to tireless negotiating by Local 700 representatives.
“Layoffs are never a good thing, we all know that,” said William P. Logan, President-Elect of Local 700. “The best we can do with a situation like the one in Cook County is try and eliminate furlough days and reduce layoffs to the bare minimum. We fought for that, and that’s what our members voted for.”
A total of 614 Teamsters voted to accept 69 union layoffs and zero furlough days on November 23, 2011.
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
