Local 727 Secures 5-Year Master Parking Agreement for 3,000 Members
Parking Industry Workers Vote to Ratify Contract With Annual Raises
Parking industry workers comprising nearly half of Teamsters Local 727’s membership secured annual raises and no health insurance co-pays for the next five years after they voted this month to ratify a new contract.
Local 727 representatives reached the written agreement with the Chicago Parking Association, which represents the parking companies at the bargaining table, on a new Master Parking Agreement for more than 3,000 members.
“The parking companies were demanding wage freezes, reduced paid time off and health insurance co-pays. In the end, the union was able to secure annual raises and more paid time off while also fighting off co-pays,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25 and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “Our parking members stood strong alongside their Teamster brothers and sisters. That display of solidarity empowered the union to hold its ground and fight for what is most important to our members.”
The ratification vote also included 5801-15 Garage Association and CPS Parking members despite the companies’ initial refusal to abide by the Master Parking Agreement.
The new contract, which covers about 120 companies and nearly 850 locations across metropolitan Chicago, expires on Oct. 31, 2016.
“The parking industry has been the heart and soul of this local union for decades, and these men and women will be vital to Local 727’s future,” Coli said. “We are proud to represent these members and fight for them, be it at the bargaining table or in our everyday lives.”
Teamsters Local 727 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
