Metropolitan Water Reclamation Votes Unanimously to Ratify Contract
Local 700 Member Positions Preserved Under New Agreement
Teamsters Local 700 members at Chicago’s Metropolitan District Water Reclamation voted unanimously to ratify a new contract this month.
The three-year agreement maintains 14 holidays and other vacation days while guaranteeing prevailing wages rates until June 30, 2017. The contract also includes a guarantee of work-for-life of the collective bargaining agreement clause.
“Essentially, this means district will not reduce the number of truck driver positions in existence,” said Becky Strzechowski, Local 700 Assistant Trustee, “as originally proposed in the district’s recommended 2012 budget.”
“To secure a contract like this in the current economy is outstanding,” said William P. Logan, Local 700 Assistant Trustee. “The guarantee of work is something that is harder and harder to come by. This is just one more example of how Teamster representation equals a stronger contract.”
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
