Applications Accepted Until March 2012 for Teamster Children, Grandchildren

Applications are now available for the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year. Children and grandchildren of active and retired Teamsters who are in their last year of high school are eligible.

Students representing Teamsters Local 700, Local 710, Local 727, Local 731 and other affiliates were each awarded $1,000 scholarships through the program for the 2011-2012 academic year.

“This scholarship program is just another example of how the Teamsters Union helps its members and their families,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “We are so proud to see outstanding young people like Riki Patel of Local 727 and Scott Chapp of Local 700 taking advantage of this incredible opportunity.”

Area students were among 100 high school seniors who were awarded $10,000 or $1,000 James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarships totaling more than $379,000 for 2011-2012.

Completed applications may be returned to respective local unions or directly to the International’s scholarship fund office. The deadline for applications is March 31, 2012.

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit, stand-alone charitable incorporated organization, was created in 1999 to honor the memory of Teamsters General President James R. Hoffa and to increase availability of educational funding for Teamster family members. The fund currently awards nearly $600,000 to hundreds of students each year through the annual award process and the essay contest.

Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
