Chicago Teamsters Hispanic Caucus Sponsors ‘Friday Night Boxing’

Proceeds From October 7 Event to Benefit Teamster Scholarships

The Chicago Teamsters are fighting for its members. Literally.

On October 7, 2011, “Friday Night Boxing” comes to the Teamsters Local 705 meeting hall at Teamster City thanks to an initiative by the Chicago Teamsters Hispanic Caucus (CTHC) to boost its educational scholarships. All proceeds from the event will benefit the CTHC Scholarship Program, offering children and grandchildren of active Teamsters assistance to pay for college.

Regardless of nationality, Teamsters everywhere are encouraged to join the Hispanic Caucus simply by downloading and returning an application form below. Teamsters must maintain an active membership in the CTHC to be eligible for scholarships.

“So much is expected of working families today, and it’s our hope to ease the financial burden of higher education for our members,” said Hector Hernandez, CTHC President. “We want our Hispanic members to become more involved in their local unions and raise awareness of the issues affecting our union. This event is a fun way to do both.”

The boxing event will feature eight sanctioned three-round bouts on the fight card. Food and beverages will be available, and live music, including mariachi and salsa bands, will be featured throughout the night.

“Events like this one really exemplify the Teamster spirit,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “Teamsters work hard, we are active in our communities, but we also know how to have fun.”
