Teamsters Local 731 Awards $35K in College Scholarships
Hancock: We Must Give Back to Move Union Forward
Seven children of Teamsters Local 731 members were collectively awarded $35,000 this summer to further their college pursuits and ease the financial burdens of secondary education.
“The Teamsters understand how hard our members work to provide for their families,” said Terrence J. Hancock, Teamsters Joint Council 25 Vice President and Local 731 President. “It’s the hope of Local 731 to bring some relief to these extraordinary families and enable their children to fully realize their potential.”
Recipients of the Teamsters Local Union No. 731 Scholarship were awarded $5,000 each for the upcoming 2011/2012 academic year. Students were chosen for outstanding scholastic achievement, aptitude, personal qualifications and financial need. All recipients have a parent or guardian working with a Local 731-represented company.
This year’s scholarship recipients were:
• Brianne Grosso, daughter of Brian Grosso of Homewood Disposal;
• Mark Janociak, son of Casey Janociak of Jack Phelan Chevrolet;
• Jacob Keller, son of Dan Keller of Arc Disposal/Republic Services;
• Cailly Morris, daughter of William Morris of Groot Industries;
• Daniel Rosendale, son of John Rosendale of Homewood Disposal;
• Kenneth Schering, son of Charles Shering of Marquardt of Barrington; and
• Oscar Tapia, Jr., son of Oscar Tapia, Sr. of Traffic Control & Protection.
“Local 731 is committed to the future of our children and the future of our union,” said Hancock. “By giving back to our communities and to the next generation, we will ensure the Teamsters Union has a prosperous future for centuries to come.”
