SLIDESHOW: Teamster Families Flock to Joliet for Annual Outing
Local 179 Celebrates Members With Cookout, Camaraderie
If the burning grills, white tents, cool drinks and live music surrounding the union hall didn’t give it away, the waiting dunk tank surely did; Teamsters Local 179 was having a party.
Hundreds of Teamsters and their families gathered in Joliet to soak up the sun during the local’s annual family picnic on July 23, 2011. Local 179 representatives, and Teamster leaders throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, came out to grab a few burgers, reminisce with retirees and show members a good time.
“For as fun and carefree as this picnic is, it matters that we take the time each year to show the membership how important they really are,” said Rich Gierut, Local 179 President. “We want all of our hardworking members to be able to blow off a little steam and really celebrate their union.”
The new trailer of Teamsters Joint Council 25 was also in attendance outside the local. Members were welcome to have their pictures taken beside the trailer or step inside to cool off; the air-conditioned interior includes a recently customized office and command center to offer local affiliates organizing, rally and strike support. The new exterior of the trailer was printed and applied by Dahlstrom Display, a graphic display company represented by Teamsters Local 458M.
Teamsters Local 179, an affiliate of Joint Council 25, represents thousands of members in counties across Illinois, including members in the construction trades. Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
