Teamsters Stress Strong Contracts With Bargaining Training
Four-Day Workshop Kicks Off at Teamster City
Approximately 40 Teamster officers and business agents turned out to improve their negotiating skills on July 25, 2011, during a collective bargaining training led by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
This week’s four-day workshop gives local representatives new focus for future contract negotiations and offers practical tactics to better protect members at the bargaining table. Part of the International’s Teamster Leadership Academy, the training welcomed agents from across the Chicago metropolitan area, as well as leaders from around the country, including representatives from Minnesota, Nevada and California.
“Everyone knows Teamster contracts are the strongest labor agreements in North America,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “Powerful contracts are the backbone of our union, which makes it so important that we continue to push and encourage our representatives to secure the best member protections possible.”
Educational resources are available to Teamster representatives all year long, thanks to training initiatives established by Joint Council 25 and the International. Collective bargaining, financial officer training, stewards training, administration and myriad other topics are regularly offered on the local and Joint Council levels.
“These trainings will remain a constant feature in our union,” said Coli. “Our members deserve representatives who provide unmatched expertise in their industries, and that’s exactly what the Teamsters provide.”
Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
