Teamsters Advocate Affordable Health Care Act
Local 743 Supports Health Insurance Expansion at National Convention

Local 743 President Donnie Von Moore endorses the resolution.
As the representative body of thousands of health care workers, Teamsters Local 743 threw its full weight behind an initiative at the union ’s 28th National Convention to deliver health insurance to more Americans.
Local 743 President Donnie Von Moore endorsed the Health Care in America Resolution on June 28, 2011, moments before more than 1,600 Teamster delegates unanimously adopted the action. The resolution detailed the health care coverage that will available to workers through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and urged all Teamster affiliates to champion its implementation.
“Everyone must have affordable health care,” said Von Moore, during the second day of the Teamsters’ National Convention. “As chairman of the Local 743 benefit funds, I feel this resolution is one of the most important motions we can make to ensure our members have the coverage they deserve.”
The PPACA, signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, is designed to reduce overall health care costs and expand coverage to more uninsured and underinsured Americans. Beginning in 2014, the federal statute will generate more national and state mechanisms to create more options for coverage for workers, reduce waiting periods to receive care and increase maximum insurance limits.
“The Teamsters aggressively oppose any tax or burden on health care premiums for working Americans, which makes support of the PPACA so important,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council and a Central Region Vice President. “We have to work together to ensure this legislation is properly enforced over the next several years and members actually reap the benefits it’s supposed to deliver.”
Local 743, an affiliate of Joint Council 25, has represented thousands of workers in the health care and nursing home industries throughout the Chicago metropolitan area for the last 75 years.
