In Memoriam: Stephen E. Pocztowski

Teamsters Mourn Loss of Joint Council 25 Trustee

Teamsters everywhere lost a fighter for working families when Teamsters Joint Council 25 Trustee and Teamsters Local 705 Secretary-Treasurer Stephen E. Pocztowski passed away suddenly on July 2, 2011. He was 56.

Pocztowski spent the last several weeks with the Joint Council 25 Executive Board at the 28th International Brotherhood of Teamsters National Convention in Las Vegas. On June 29, he was officially nominated to the General Executive Board as a Central Region Vice President.

Three days later, as he prepared to return to Chicago, Pocztowski was rushed to a Las Vegas-area hospital where he passed away.

He is survived by his wife Linda and two sons, Stephen and Kevin.

“It’s always heartbreaking to say goodbye to one of our own, but especially saddening when we lose a leader like Steve,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “On behalf of all of our affiliates in the Chicago area, we mourn his loss deeply. We will forever remember Steve as a true Teamster who put the members above all else.”

A wake will be held from 4-8 p.m., Friday, July 8, 2011, at Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home, 235 N. Main Street, Wauconda, Ill. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Transfiguration Catholic Church, 316 W. Mill Street, Wauconda, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for a college fund for the Pocztowski children.
