Real, Fictional Chicago Mayors Congratulate Teamsters

Rahm Emanuel, Kelsey Grammer Film Messages for National Convention

The City of Chicago embraced two new mayors in 2011, and they’re both showing their support of Teamsters Joint Council 25.

In a special recording, the real Mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, commemorated the 100th anniversary of Joint Council 25 and the 28th International Brotherhood of Teamsters National Convention. In a supplemental message, Emmy Award-winning actor Kelsey Grammer, who plays Chicago Mayor Tom Kane in the upcoming Starz original TV series “Boss,” offered his own congratulations.

“It’s pretty cool to know we’ve got Chicago’s mayor behind us, on and off the screen,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25.

Both videos were recorded for all Teamsters to see at the National Convention. In addition to honoring Joint Council 25’s centennial, which took place in conjunction with the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund Dinner in March, the messages acknowledge the roles Teamsters play in the City of Chicago and the film and television industries.

Teamsters Local 700 represents thousands of public employees in Chicago, working for the Departments of Streets and Sanitation, Aviation, Water, Fleet Management and other areas. On the set of “Boss,” Teamsters work in various capacities as members of Teamsters Local 727, which represents more than 300 in the industry.

Local 727 has been instrumental in the recent opening of Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, the current home of “Boss” and the largest North American soundstage outside of Los Angeles. About 50 Teamsters currently work on the original series, an eight-part production premiering on Starz on October 21, 2011.
