More than 160 union officers, business agents and members will represent the affiliated locals of Teamsters Joint Council 25 as the 28th International Brotherhood of Teamsters National Convention opens in Las Vegas on Monday, June 27, 2011.
“Everyone in the Teamsters International next week will see the strength and solidarity that truly makes up Joint Council 25,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25 and International Vice President for the Central Region. “All of our local representatives are honored to represent our hardworking members in Las Vegas. This convention will reaffirm our commitment to working families in Illinois and Indiana.”
The Teamsters National Convention is held every five years—this year at Las Vegas’ Paris and Bally’s hotels. Throughout the five-day event, elected delegates and alternate delegates representing local unions throughout the United States and Canada make amendments to the Teamster constitution. Candidates are also officially nominated for International office.
Convention registration opens on Sunday, June 26, with the first opening session for amendments on Monday. Voting for International candidates extends from June 28-30. The convention will conclude with final amendment sessions on July 1.
In addition to the 28th National Convention, this year has also marked the 100th anniversary of Joint Council 25. Watch a special message below from Gov. Pat Quinn in celebration of these historic Teamster events.
