Illinois Commemorates Chicago Teamsters’ 100th Anniversary

Legislature Adopts Resolution to Congratulate Century of Service

The Illinois General Assembly commemorated the 100th anniversary of Teamsters Joint Council 25 in an official resolution adopted May 12, 2011.

House Resolution 360 commends and congratulates Joint Council 25 on its century of “outstanding and meritorious service to the people of the State of Illinois.” In addition to acknowledging the work of Teamster labor leaders, including current Joint Council President John T. Coli, the resolution recognizes the union’s contributions to the Chicago labor community and workers statewide.

“The Joint Council 25 family graciously accepts this historic resolution and thanks the many leaders and legislators who’ve helped Illinois remain a labor-friendly state,” said Coli. “Over the last century, the Teamsters have fought hard to establish and protect countless rights and advantages for working Americans. We could not have done so without the help of Illinois officers and politicians who share our vision.”

State Reps. Angelo “Skip” Saviano (R-Elmwood Park) and Anthony DeLuca (D-Crete) sponsored the resolution. Saviano, a longtime Teamster supporter, has actively joined Joint Council 25 in protecting and championing the Illinois Film Tax Credit. DeLuca, a relative newcomer to the General Assembly, is also a member of Teamsters Local 731.

Teamsters Joint Council 25, which celebrated its 100th year on March 24, 2011, represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
