Teamster Daughter Stars in Inspirational Dance Movie
"Go For It!" Hits Theaters Nationwide on May 13
The daughter of a retired Teamster officer and sister of current Teamster business agents makes her big-screen debut on May 13, 2011, in the new feature film, "Go For It!".
Gina Rodriguez, daughter of longtime member and retired Teamsters Local 714 Vice President Geno Rodriguez, takes on the role of a supportive best friend in the inspirational hip-hop dance film. Her brother Ben Rodriguez and brother-in-law Cristian Leiva are current business agents of Teamsters Local 727.
“The entire Teamster family congratulates Gina Rodriguez on this impressive starring role,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25 and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 727. “The Teamsters represents thousands of workers in the film industry, and we couldn’t be more proud to have one of our own in front of the camera.”
An official selection of the 2010 Chicago International Film Festival, "Go For It!" tells the story of a young woman living in Chicago who struggles to overcome her fears and follow her dream to be a dancer.
A current union member with the Screen Actors Guild, Gina Rodriguez remembers attending pickets and union conferences with her Teamster family members from as early as 7 years old. She is also the recipient of the Teamsters Hispanic Caucus Scholarship, which allowed her to study acting at New York University’s Tisch School for the Arts.
Most recently, Rodriguez has starred in multiple hit TV series, including "Law & Order," "10 Things I Hate About You" and "Army Wives."
“With such a strong labor background, I’m sure Teamsters throughout the Chicago area won’t want to miss seeing Gina in theaters this month,” Coli said.
Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
