Waste Transfer Workers Ratify First Teamster Contract

Local 330 Secures Work Guarantees, Wage Increases for New Members

Nearly 50 new members in the waste transfer and material disposal industry voted 2-1 to ratify their first union contract with Teamsters Local 330.

Teamster representatives navigated 15 contract negotiation sessions to secure the agreement with Midwest Transfer & Logistics. The three-year contract affords workers three percent wage increases annually, guarantees for eight-hour workdays and 40-hour work weeks and secure seniority for job and shift bidding.

“Local 330 applauds our 43 new members with Midwest Transfer & Logistics, who maintained solidarity throughout the negotiating process to demand a fair contract,” said Dominic Romanazzi, Local 330 President. “For the first time, these dedicated workers will enjoy all the protections and advantages of Teamster representation.”

The overwhelming contract ratification also guarantees hours for weekend and holiday labor, new terms for grievances and progressive discipline and reimbursements for drivers renewing their commercial driver’s licenses. Midwest Transfer & Logistics operates material transfer stations and recycling services throughout northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

“As our national economy continues to rebound and companies hire more workers, it’s exciting to see working families lay claim to their own future,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “The newest members of Local 330 now have job protections and wage increases they didn’t have before, and they’re setting an example for other workers throughout the Midwest.”

Teamsters Local 330 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
