Teamsters Joint Council 25 Prepares for 100th Anniversary

Roughly 1,200 Expected to Attend Chicago Celebration on March 16

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of Teamsters Joint Council 25 will be held in conjunction with this year’s James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund (JRHMSF) Dinner on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at the Hilton Chicago Hotel downtown.

“This is the perfect opportunity to honor our past while looking toward the future,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “The Joint Council and its local affiliates are steeped in a rich tradition, and we are thrilled to be able to share that with all of our Teamster brothers and sisters.”

About 1,200 Teamsters from across the country are expected to attend the event, including General President James P. Hoffa and the Teamsters General Executive Board.

Everyone in attendance will receive a 100th anniversary pictorial history book and commemorative pin, as well as a 40-minute documentary DVD chronicling the history of Joint Council 25.

“Many long hours have gone into putting together the different elements of this commemoration,” said Coli, who will address the crowd before a special screening of the documentary. “Everyone can expect to come away from the event with an even greater appreciation for the Teamsters Union and the solid foundation laid for us by our predecessors."

The JRHMSF portion of the event will feature guest speakers and recognize scholarship recipients.

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund, a non-profit charitable incorporated organization, was created in 1999 to honor the memory of Teamsters General President James R. Hoffa and to increase availability of educational funding for Teamster family members. The fund currently awards more than $579,000 to hundreds of students each year through the annual award process and essay contest.
