Lake County Sheriff's Department Employees Vote Overwhelmingly for Teamsters
Approximately 200 Law Enforcement Workers Join Local 700
Corrections officers and resident field coordinators in the Lake County Sheriff’s Department voted overwhelmingly for Teamster representation in an Illinois Labor Relations Board election on December 17, 2010.
The bargaining unit of about 200 in Waukegan joins more than 13,000 public employees as members of Teamsters Local 700.
“The choice for these hardworking men and women was obvious,” said John T. Coli, Trustee of Local 700 and President of Teamsters Joint Council 25. “Local 700 leaders and representatives will stand with our new members to ensure strong contracts and fair treatment, just as we do for all of our members.”
The final ballot count was 121-22 in favor of Local 700 representation.
“We need an organization that will fight for us,” said Lake County corrections officer Terry L. Smith of his decision to join the Teamsters.
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
