Joint Council 25 Rides in Toys for Tots Parade

Teamsters Make Annual Contributions to Children in Need

Action figures, bicycles and board games filled the Teamsters Joint Council 25 trailer on December 5, 2010, as the union answered an annual call for needy children in the Chicagoland Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade.

Every year, Joint Council 25 joins the U.S. Marines in its Toys for Tots campaign to ensure every child in need receives a gift on Christmas morning. Teamster locals across Chicago and northwest Indiana gathered presents and raised monetary donations for weeks prior to the parade, contributing to more than 16 million toys collected this year for children nationwide.

“Joint Council 25 saw more donations from Teamster locals and members this year than any other time in recent memory,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “Let there be no mistake that Teamsters work tirelessly to improve quality of life, for hardworking members, for children and those who need it most.”

The Joint Council 25 trailer was at the front of the line as the Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade kicked off at 83rd Street and Western Avenue. More than 1,000 motorcycles joined the parade, transporting toys north along Western to DeVry University on Campbell Street. At 20 miles long and often five hours in duration, the annual event is the world’s largest and longest motorcycle parade.

Although the bikes are no longer rumbling, Toys for Tots donations are still being accepted. Toys and unwrapped gifts can be dropped at Joint Council 25, 1300 W. Higgins Road, Suite 220, Park Ridge, through Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Toys may also be dropped at dozens of Toys for Tots locations across Chicago. Click Here to find the nearest drop-site.
