Nearly 200 School Bus Workers Secure Teamster Contract

New Members in South Holland Ratify First Agreement With Local 777

Approximately 190 school bus drivers and aides overwhelmingly ratified their first-ever union contract as members of Teamsters Local 777 on November 19, 2010.

The bargaining unit, which organized with the Teamsters less than six months ago, secured strong wage increases, paid holidays and improved health and welfare benefits for all workers over the next three years. The drivers and aides represent the second unit of more than 160 First Student school bus workers to organize with Local 777 this year.

In October, Local 777 organized drivers, aides and crossing guards in Belvidere.

“As the Teamsters continue to drive up standards within the school bus industry, more hardworking men and women are realizing the long-term strength and protection of a Teamster contract,” said John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25.

“The local union is so proud of our members in South Holland, who came together to fight for a better standard of living for all,” said James T. Glimco, Local 777 President. “The Teamsters are once more committed to the workers of First Student in their march toward better wages and protection on the job.”

Members in South Holland now join more than 1,400 school bus workers already under contract with Local 777.

Teamsters Local 777 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
