Coli Appointed to Preckwinkle's Transition Team
Local 700 Trustee Providing Insight on Cook County Board President-Elect's Criminal Justice Sub-Committee
John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25 and Trustee of Teamsters Local 700, has been appointed to Cook County Board President-Elect Toni Preckwinkle’s Transition Team to provide insight about criminal justice policies and legislation as Preckwinkle prepares to take office on Dec. 6, 2010.
Coli’s knowledge and input will be vital because the Teamsters represent thousands of criminal justice workers in Cook County, including the Circuit Court, the Department of Corrections and the Juvenile Temporary Detention Center.
“Our new Cook County Board President understands how important the Teamsters are in the broad scope of the County,” Coli said. “I am taking this opportunity to represent our members’ best interests very seriously. They will have a voice, and they will be heard.”
In May, Preckwinkle assembled a group of about 100 accomplished leaders and Cook County residents to form policy teams to evaluate the status of the County. Local 700 Assistant Trustee William P. Logan served on the criminal justice policy team, evaluating the system’s current state, providing analysis and proposing recommendations for the new administration.
“My experience working with our members at the CCDOC, JTDC and Circuit Court was invaluable as our team developed proposals for the new Cook County Board administration,” Logan said. “By providing detailed knowledge on each of these unique groups and the challenges they face, our team was able to devise actions we believe the County must take going forward.”
During the criminal justice sub-committee’s first meeting on Friday, Nov. 19, members discussed prioritizing the policy team’s recommendations. The sub-committee will continue meeting over the next two weeks to help develop plans to transform County government.
“This transition team is helping to provide a solid foundation as the new administration takes over, but our work as a union is far from over,” Coli said. “As always, Local 700’s leaders and representatives will continue to push for policies and legislation that best serve our members.”
Teamsters Local 700 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
