Teamster Leaders Join Pat Quinn at Washington Reception

Hoffa, Coli Champion Governor for New Job Creation in Illinois

Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa joined Teamsters Joint Council 25 President John T. Coli and Vice President Terrence J. Hancock for a reception in support of Gov. Pat Quinn on July 12, 2010.

About 45 union leaders—including Teamsters Local 700 Assistant Trustee Becky Strzechowski, Teamsters Local 786 President Michael Yauger, Teamsters Local 727 Vice President John Coli Jr. and Joint Council 25 Political Director Mike Ciaccio—gathered with Quinn at Teamsters headquarters in Washington, D.C. Illinois’ Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor Sheila Simon also was in attendance.

“As a former Teamster himself, Gov. Quinn understands the importance of the labor force in our state,” said John T. Coli. “His focus has been on creating new jobs, and he’s always expressed his willingness to work together on the important issues.”

Hoffa opened the two-hour reception by discussing what Quinn has meant to the Teamsters in Illinois.

“Pat Quinn has been a true friend to working families in the State of Illinois,” Hoffa said. “He has stood by our members to face down corporate greed and has been a true partner in advancing the goals of the Teamsters’ Helmets to Hardhats initiatives, which will help ensure our brave men and women in the armed services have the opportunity to receive training and jobs when they leave the military. … There is one clear choice for governor in Illinois, and that is Pat Quinn.”

Teamsters Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
