Valets Overwhelmingly Vote to Ratify Three-Year Contract

Local 727 Helps to Secure Raises, More Paid Time Off for More Than 600 Teamsters

Teamsters at several valet companies overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new three-year contract that includes raises, more paid time off and provisions to help keep as many members working as possible throughout the year.

“In spite of these harsh economic times, we were still able to secure for our members the added benefits that they deserve,” said John Coli Jr., Teamsters Local 727 Vice President.

More than 600 Chicago-area valets are covered under the new agreement, which went into effect July 1, 2010, and expires June 30, 2013. The contract includes the following provisions:

• A signing bonus in the first year and raises of more than 4 percent in second and third years.
• One additional sick day per year.
• One additional week of vacation per year after 15 years of employment in the bargaining unit.
• Employer contributions of $4 per member each month to the Parking Industry Labor Management Committee (PILMC).
• In the first quarter (January, February and March), members may be asked to either drop to 32- hour work weeks or take unpaid furlough days. In the case of furlough days, members will have the choice of using vacation time in the first quarter and using furlough days later, or using furlough days in the first quarter and saving their vacation time for later. A member’s number of furlough days cannot exceed his or her number of vacation days each year. This provision will help keep as many members working as possible during a slow time of year.
