Teamsters Raise Record Figures for Breast Cancer Network

Hundreds of Members Show Support During Annual Walk to Empower

More Teamsters came together than ever before to raise record donations for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength’s Walk to Empower last month.

Approximately 400 Teamsters throughout Illinois descended on Chicago’s Grant Park on Mother’s Day in support of the Network of Strength, which provides physical, financial and emotional support to those currently affected by breast cancer. Local unions affiliated with Teamsters Joint Council 25—as well as Teamster companies and labor supporters—banded together to raise more than $45,000 for the non-profit organization.

“The outpouring of support from Teamsters to aid those battling breast cancer is astounding in its compassion, and historic for our Joint Council,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “The record figures raised by Teamsters and their families will play a significant role in helping thousands of patients health, cope and recover.”

More than 30,000 participants embarked on one- and three-mile walks around Grant Park on May 9. In the last four years alone, Teamsters joining the annual Walk to Empower have raised approximately $100,000. Rather than funding breast cancer research, all donations made to the Network of Strength are used to generate financial relief, free wigs and unlimited counseling for women, men and families affected by the disease.
