Teamsters Offer Free Legal Aid to Health Care Workers

Local 743 Partners With Chicago Lawyers to Provide
Confidential Assistance

Teamsters working in the health care industry may qualify for free legal aid as part of a new member program to help settle criminal cases and related matters.

Teamsters Local 743 has partnered with Cabrini Green Legal Aid, a legal and social services group serving low-income residents in the Chicago area, to assist health care workers whose jobs may be threatened by criminal records. Some Teamsters who have already taken advantage of the service have been given options for expunging their records and received a better understanding of their rights in the workplace.

“The Local 743 Community Service Committee is always looking to collaborate with organizations that can really have an impact on working families,” said Larry Davis, Local 743 Vice President. “Cabrini Green Legal Aid is a great fit because its lawyers are committed to helping men and women who need their services rehabilitate their lives.”

In March, Local 743 held its first meeting with participating members to address their individual cases. Those that could not be immediately addressed or resolved were referred to other Cabrini Green lawyers for additional aid.

Any Teamster working in the health care industry in need of legal assistance is encouraged to contact the local for more information. All correspondence and meetings are kept confidential.

“During one of our initial appointments with Cabrini Green, I was humbled to see workers step forward and reach out to the Teamsters for help,” said Davis. “There is no reason to feel ashamed. We’ve established this partnership to assist Teamsters across Chicago and get them the help they need now.”
