Translation Service Available to Spanish-Speaking Teamsters

Local 743 Offers New Technology During Membership

Members of Teamsters Local 743 can listen as union meetings are
translated from English into Spanish.

Spanish-speaking members of Teamsters Local 743 have a new opportunity to further engage with their leadership with the debut of translation services at membership meetings.

“It is critical to remove any barrier between the ways members and union representatives interact with each other,” said Richard Berg, Local 743 President. “The new services will go a long way to keeping all members well-informed and encouraging greater democratic participation in the local.”

The new technology allows members to listen to union meetings through headsets as a live interpreter translates English to Spanish. Local 743, which represents more than 11,000 members, is one of the first Teamster locals nationwide to offer the translation service. Approximately 3,500 members of the Chicago local are Spanish-speaking workers.

Teamsters Local 743 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois and Indiana.
