Chicago Teamsters Endorse Julie Hamos for Congress
Joint Council 25 to Back State Representative for 10th Congressional District
Teamsters Joint Council 25 endorsed State Rep. Julie Hamos today for the 10th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
“The Teamsters endorse Julie Hamos because she knows a strong workforce is the backbone of a strong economy,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “With Julie in Congress, we will have an advocate for issues important to working families, such as creating new jobs, improving transportation infrastructure and bettering the lives of residents of the 10th District.”
As a member of the Illinois legislature since 1998, Hamos negotiated funding and reform of the state’s public transit system to save 3,000 jobs. As part of the Illinois Workforce Investment Board, she oversaw a special task force on entry-level workers and authored a program to match job seekers with employment in the growing health care industry.
In Congress, Hamos will promote tax policies that encourage job creation in small businesses and provide training incentives for those seeking employment, particularly in green and transportation industries.
“The economy is going to be our greatest challenge in coming years. New industries are emerging in green technology and new investments in transportation are vital for our success,” Hamos said. “I am grateful for the support of Joint Council 25 and look forward to working with the Teamsters as we prepare our workforce for the changes ahead.”
Upcoming primary elections will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.
An affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Joint Council 25 represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois.
