Hoffman Estates Public Works Approves New Contract

Teamsters Assure No Layoffs for Public Employees

Guaranteeing job protection for every member of the bargaining unit, more than 50 Hoffman Estates Public Works employees represented by Teamsters Local 714 have closed a new three-year contract.

“The workers in Hoffman Estates have been Teamsters for years and they came together once again to secure a remarkable union contract,” said Bill Logan, Local 714 Business Manager. “These hardworking men and women stepped up to demand contract language preventing the layoff of any public works employee in 2010.

“That’s the power of organizing.”

The public workers, who perform vital city services from plowing snow to cutting grass to maintaining Hoffman Estate’s water supply, have gained significant workplace protections beyond job security. Advantages in wage increases include step increase pay raises for the next two years and an option to reopen wage negotiations in 2012.

Teamsters Local 714 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, which represents more than 100,000 hardworking men and women throughout Illinois.
