Giannoulias Promises Labor Support at Teamster City

Senate Candidate Attends Joint Council 25 Meeting,
Greets Delegates

Leading U.S. Senate candidate and State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias reaffirmed his commitment to Illinois labor at the November delegates meeting of Teamsters Joint Council 25.

The Teamsters endorsed Giannoulias last month in his campaign for the Senate seat formerly held by President Barack Obama. During his visit to Teamster City in Chicago, the treasurer pledged his support for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act and vowed to champion sound health care reform for all Americans when he is elected to the Senate.

“Alexi Giannoulias will stand in solidarity with working Americans and help rebuild our middle class,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “By investing in new jobs and industries, Giannoulias will protect retirement security and raise the standard of living for America’s working families.”

As treasurer, Giannoulias defended hardworking men and women by refusing to do business with banks that threatened Illinois jobs with liquidation. He has continually directed investments into state job creation throughout his tenure as a local political leader and served this summer as a keynote speaker at a veterans job program initiated by Teamster officials in Chicago.

An affiliate of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Joint Council 25 represents 22 local unions throughout Illinois.
