Teamsters Address Member Issues With Cook County Sheriff
Workplace Safety, Grievances Are Primary Concerns
for Local 714
Safety, grievance and representational issues of Teamster members were top priorities for union leaders who met last week with Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.
Representing thousands of Cook County Corrections Officers and Court Service Deputies, Teamsters Local 714 met with Dart in advance of upcoming contract negotiations. John T. Coli, President of Teamsters Joint Council 25, and Bill Logan, Local 714 Business Manager, addressed member concerns with the Cook County Sheriff to clarify the processing of grievances and improve workplace safety for the public employees.
“The Teamsters are interested in finding as much common ground as possible with the Sheriff’s office on the issues that most affect our members,” said Coli. “Better communication and a close working relationship with Sheriff Dart will ensure that no time is wasted in implementing the improvements the employees deserve.”
Contract negotiations for Corrections Officers are currently underway between the Sheriff’s office and Local 714. Talks between the Teamsters and Cook County administrators will continue as negotiations approach for Court Service Deputies.
“The safety of our members is paramount,” said Logan. “Every day, these workers put their lives at risk so that we may live safer, healthier and happier lives. It’s about time they receive their just recognition.”
Teamsters Local 714 represents approximately 1,200 deputies in the Cook County Courts and more than 3,000 officers in the Department of Corrections.
