Illinois Creates First Specialty License Plates
for Teamster Members

Teamsters statewide will soon be able to take their union pride on the road with Illinois’ new Teamster specialty license plates.

By officially signing House Bill 2625 into law last week, Gov. Pat Quinn has established the first Teamster license plate in Illinois history. Having received overwhelming support in both houses of the state’s legislature, the license plates will bring new revenue to the Teamsters Joint Council 25 Charitable Trust and offer members a new way to support their union.

“The Teamster license plate not only reminds everyone on the road of the strength of our union, but it offers Illinois drivers a special designation to call their own,” said John T. Coli, President of Joint Council 25. “Purchasers of the plates may also be proud that all proceeds raised will be going back into our communities through various charitable organizations.”

Interested union members and supporters can purchase a Teamster specialty license plate for $40 through the Secretary of State’s office. Lawmakers require a minimum of 1,500 paid applicants before plate production can begin.

Please note: Joint Council 25 is currently working with the Secretary of State’s office to begin the process of submitting applications. Applications cannot yet be submitted. Teamster locals and Illinois members will be notified when the application process will begin.
