Richard Lipsitz, a Business Agent and Labor Movement Liaison for Teamsters Local 264 in upstate New York, presented on the Five Phases of Bargaining as well as bargaining legal framework. Lipsitz has served as a Teamster officer/business agent for 30 years during which time he worked on more than 100 contracts.
“Bargaining contracts is a very important aspect of the business agent’s job. The more education you can get, the more success you will have,” said Lipsitz. “You can learn a lot through experience, but it also helps to have instruction that is based on the experience of many.”
The Joint Council will continue to present seminars and workshops on important issues for local officers, business agents and stewards during the year.
“This was a very good seminar. We reviewed a lot of important basics, but I also got some new insights on a few issues,” said Tim Dunlap, Teamsters Local 731 Business Representative. “It is so important to attend seminars like this. Knowledge is power.”
Teamsters Joint Council 25 is the governing body representing 22 Teamster local unions in the Chicagoland area. The Joint Council assists its local unions in coordinating Teamster activities, solving problems and organizing.
