“This picnic is a great tradition to get everyone together,” said Jessie Lee, the TNBC Chicago Chapter President. “The TNBC Chicago Chapter is always working hard to get members involved and informed about their union.”
More than 80 members and their families attended the event in Hazel Crest Park. Joe’s Barbeque catered the event.
The picnic also offered members the opportunity to register to vote, HIV testing, Aflac insurance information and a chance to win raffle prizes.
“The picnic is held to get everyone together and have some fun, but it is also a chance to offer services and get members involved,” said Mary James, Chicago Chapter TNBC Trustee. “The more members we get involved and active, the better for all Teamsters.”
The TNBC began in 1975 with a mission to organize and increase black member participation in the Teamsters Union. There are more than 10,000 TNBC members around the country. The Chicago Chapter has approximately 500 members.
The Teamsters National Black Caucus will hold its 33rd Annual Educational Conference and Banquet August 18-24 in St. Louis, Missouri.
