Teamsters Find Jobs for Returning Veterans
Helmets to Hardhats Program Going Strong in Chicago
Teamsters Joint Council 25 and its affiliated locals are participating in Helmets to Hardhats. The program connects recently discharged military members to quality Teamster jobs.
“Veterans sacrifice for our country and when they get home they deserve a well paying job with good benefits to take care of their families,” said John T. Coli, Teamster Joint Council 25 President. “We can help veterans make the next part of their lives a success. It is really the least we can do to thank them for their honorable work for our country.”
The Teamsters have already placed many veterans in steady jobs with fair pay and benefits.
“Sometimes the skills acquired in the military don’t appear to match up to jobs they can get at home, but veterans shouldn’t be overlooked,” said Mick Yauger, Teamsters Local 786 President and coordinator of Teamsters Joint Council 25 Helmets to Hardhats program. “They have been trained to complete any job in any circumstance and to work well in a team. These are qualities that all employers are looking for.”
To be eligible for the program, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old;
- Have been honorably discharged from military services;
- Have earned a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Pass a drug test; and
- Be physically fit to perform work.
