Teamsters Local 727 Members Overwhelmingly Ratify First Contract
MV Transportation Workers Gain Wage Increase, Life Insurance Policy
Teamsters Local 727 members ratified a new contract with MV Transportation 87-12 on June 3. The new members joined the Teamsters in March 2008.
“The workers at MV Transportation truly needed a solid, fair contract that protects their rights — and that is exactly what we got for them,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Local 727 Secretary-Treasurer. “This is the first of many great contracts for MV Transportation workers as members of Teamsters Local 727.”
The members’ new five-year contract includes:
- 30 percent wage increase during the course of the contract;
- $25 employer-paid increase in insurance contribution;
- Accrual of vacation days begins after six months instead of one year;
- $5,000 life insurance policy paid for by employer; and
- Employees receive a new sick and personal day balance beginning in either six months if unused occurrences still remain, or after a year if all available time has been used up.
The Local 727 members work as paratransit drivers around the Niles, Illinois area. MV Transportation is subcontracted by Pace Bus to provide prearranged curb-to-curb transportation to disabled community members.
Teamsters Local 727 represents approximately 4,590 members in Chicago in the auto livery chauffeurs, funeral directors, embalmers, apprentices, ambulance drivers and helpers, taxicab drivers, miscellaneous garage employees, car washers, greasers, polishers and wash rack attendants industries.
