Teamster Local 727 Members Attend Continuing Education Opportunity
Funeral Industry Workers Earn Credits Toward State Certification
Teamsters Local 727 hosted a continuing education course for its members in the funeral industry on May 15.

Nearly 60 members, who work as embalmers and funeral directors, attended the program at the Chicago local.
“Local 727 continues to offer the highest quality benefits program in the country for funeral industry workers,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Local 727 Secretary-Treasurer. “Our members have been able to take advantage of this educational opportunity for the past 16 years.”
The program included presentations on three topics, which were each worth two continuing education hours of credit. The subjects included public aid, health and welfare benefits and time and stress management.

The state of Illinois requires funeral industry workers to attend 24 hours of continuing education courses every two years to remain certified. Every year, Local 727 sponsors two sessions for members to earn up to 12 credits at no cost.
Teamsters Local 727 represents more than 310 funeral directors and embalmers in the Chicagoland area. The local has represented funeral industry workers since the 1920s.
Teamsters Local 727 represents approximately 4,590 members in Chicago in the auto livery chauffeurs, funeral directors, embalmers, apprentices, ambulance drivers and helpers, taxicab drivers, miscellaneous garage employees, car washers, greasers, polishers and wash rack attendants industries.
