Joint Council 25 sponsored a team of 300 members and their families this year. The team raised more than $10,000 to support the organization.
“Breast cancer is a disease that touches all of us in some way, which is why I am so proud the Teamsters have supported this event for the past four years,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Joint Council 25 President. “It is wonderful to see Teamster members coming together for such an important cause.”
Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, now called The Breast Cancer Network of Strength, raises money to ensure through information, empowerment and peer support that no one faces breast cancer alone.
“I am a two-year survivor of breast cancer, so it is very important for me to support the Breast Cancer Network of Strength,” said Joan Somer, Teamsters Local 705 Dues Department Office Manager and Team Co-Captain. “I want to thank all the Teamster members and their families as well as the thousands of others who joined us in the rain on Mother’s Day. I hope to see everyone next year on a hopefully sunny race day.”
The "Walk to Empower" events also take place in Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Haven, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, Seattle, Tulsa and Washington, D.C.
Teamsters Joint Council 25 is the governing body of 22 local unions in the greater Chicagoland area. The Joint Council assists its local unions in coordinating Teamster activities, solving problems and organizing.
