Teamsters Joint Council 25 hosted the classes at the Service Employee International Union Local 1 Training Center in downtown Chicago. The class was led by John Lund, a University of Wisconsin Extension Professor at the School for Workers in Madison, Wisconsin.
“The Joint Council 25 Executive Board has made creating learning opportunities a priority for our members and staff,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Joint Council 25 President. “Utilizing technology can only make the Teamsters a stronger and more effective union, which is why classes like these are so necessary.”
The classes covered basic and intermediate levels of Word and Excel from making fliers with graphics to creating spreadsheets.
“The Joint Council has created a wonderful opportunity to learn new programs, especially for someone like me who doesn’t know a lot about computers,” said Jessie Lee, Teamsters Local 744 Secretary-Treasurer. “Computer skills are becoming essential for running locals, which is why I am here today.”
The Joint Council will continue to host relevant educational courses for local officers, business agents and stewards throughout the year.
The School of Workers is the labor education department of the University of Wisconsin-Extension, whose mission is to educate workers and others about issues of concern in the workplace.
Teamsters Joint Council 25 is the governing body representing 22 Teamster local unions in the Chicagoland area. The Joint Council assists its local unions in coordinating Teamster activities, solving problems and organizing.
