Teamsters Rally in Gary for Obama
Indiana Primary to Be Held May 6
Teamster Local 142 members braved the rain Thursday morning to participate in a town hall meeting for presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama in Gary, Indiana. The Teamsters Union endorsed Sen. Obama for President in February.

“It was so exciting to be a part of the rally today and hear Sen. Obama speak,” said Sandy Schomaker, Teamsters Local 142 Trustee. “He has real solutions for the problems we are facing in Gary, and I believe he is exactly what this country needs.”
Sen. Obama spoke to the crowd about solutions for strengthening the economy, the Iraq war, veterans and education.
“The way to strengthen the dollar is to strengthen the economy,” Obama said. “And the way to strengthen the economy is to invest in infrastructure, invest in our education system, roll back those Bush tax cuts, end this war.”
Teamsters Joint Council 25 has approximately 3,000 Indiana residents as members.

“Sen. Barack Obama is an extremely strong leader who understands the issues that are important to working men and women in United States,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Joint Council 25 President. “The Teamsters are behind him every step of the way.”

Teamsters Joint Council 25 is the governing body of 22 local unions in the greater Chicagoland area. The Joint Council assists its local unions in coordinating Teamster events, solving problems and organizing.
