Combined Efforts of Joint Council 25, Local 731 and IBT
Lead to Victory

First Transit bus drivers in McHenry, Illinois overwhelmingly voted to join Teamsters Local 731 on April 4.

From left to right: John Goldschnikl, Frank Cherek, Terry Joyner, Dave Bowen, Elfreida Plattis, Don Parenti, John Sebastyen and Dick Nation.

“The workers knew it was time to make a change and sought out the Teamsters,” said Mike DiGrazia, Teamsters Joint Council 25 Organizing Director.  “By joining the union, the First Transit bus drivers have empowered themselves to make their jobs better for themselves and their families.”

There are 37 First Transit bus drivers who work three routes in McHenry as well as provide a “call and ride” service for area residents.

“This victory is a great example of what can be accomplished when we work in unison,” said John T. Coli, Teamsters Joint Council 25 President.  “Everyone had a hand in supporting these bus drivers in their efforts to join the Teamsters.”

Teamsters Local 731 represents more than 6,400 members in the Chicagoland area working in the excavating, grading, asphalt, private scavengers, automobile salesroom, garage attendants and linen and laundry crafts.
